Working With a Sleep Consultant

Emerson’s Story

Have you been wondering what working with a sleep consultant looks like? Emerson’s mom, Emily, is sharing her experience with you!

Emily came to me when her son, Emerson was 5 months old. I can still remember our initial discovery call. She was so clearly sleep deprived and overwhelmed by the idea of sleep training. The emotions in her voice as she shared her concerns reminded me so much of myself and the emotional toll that sleep deprivation took on me and my family two years before. Immediately, I knew that I wanted to help their family get the sleep they oh so needed and deserved. I am so proud of Emily and her partner, Turner, for all the hard work that they put into prioritizing sleep for Emerson (and themselves). I am honoured that they trusted me with their family’s sleep.

Emily and Turner purchased the preferred sleep package during my “Sleep All Year” promotion in January 2022. In addition to the initial two weeks of support they were given an additional coaching call in April, July, October, and December.

Here is what Emily had to say about her experience working with me:

Q: What were the sleep challenges you were facing before working with a sleep consultant?

A: He nursed to sleep every time. At night time he would sleep anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours and then struggled to get back to sleep. Nap times were almost non existent and nothing was on a set schedule.

Q: Why did you decide to hire Melissa to help you through sleep training instead of doing it on your own?

A: I am a first time mom and struggled with the reality of parenting. When I tried to Google sleep methods or ask for advice from friends I was overwhelmed with all of the different techniques. By the time I reached out to Melissa I felt completely lost and sleep deprived. I knew I needed someone who was knowledgeable while supportive to help walk us through proper sleep training.

Q: What would you tell another family who is currently on the fence about hiring a sleep coach?

A: It’s not an easy, quick fix but it’s so worth it to see your baby be their energetic happy self because they’re finally getting the proper sleep they need. Parenting has so many challenges but sleep does not need to be one of them. Just keep pushing through those rough couple nights in the beginning, you will be rewarded with a goods night sleep by the end.

Q: What did sleep look like after working with Melissa through sleep training?

A: Emerson is able to fall asleep on his own, and sooth himself back to sleep when/if he wakes up in the night. Our sleep schedule now has structure and our nap times are consistent.

Q: You were part of a special promotion that gave you four additional calls to use throughout the year. Did you find these additional calls to be helpful?

A: Extremely helpful. The extra calls seemed to always fall at a perfect time for our family, whether it be working through a regression, transitioning to a different nap schedule or simply offering advice for an upcoming vacation. Having that extra check in gave me more confidence and helped me tweak Emerson’s sleep needs as he continued to grow.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to add that you feel other families would find helpful about sleep training or working with a sleep consultant?

A: It’s okay to let a baby cry, it allows them to learn to sooth on their own. Melissa creates a plan that gently reassures baby that although they are falling asleep on their own and that’s tough, you are always close by when needed. The first few days are challenging but the reward of a happy, and restful baby is so worth it. The extra sleep I get now is just the icing on the cake.

If you want to help your baby learn how to be a great independent sleeper like Emerson, I’d love to work with your family too. I am currently running my “Sleep All Year” promotion until the end of January 2023. Let’s chat about what it would look like to work together to meet your family’s sleep goals.
